Abstract: The aim of this article is to find out about the meanings related to feelings of disbelief emerging from a mother whose child has been sexually abused by the former’s couple. Thus, the objective is mainly based on the way a mother both reacts to the issue previously mentioned and behaves in order to diminish the emotional impact on her son/daughter owing to the sexual aggression endured by the latter. This investigation is qualitative, which leads to interpretation and relational analysis. Therefore, the methodology conducted during the process consisted of interviewing mothers whose behavior showed signs of disbelief in a semi-structural fashion. Upon carrying out the research, the main findings give an account of the presence of tension between the woman’s role of being a mother and her role as a woman. However, surprising as it may seem since, from a social and cultural point of view, mothers are supposed to protect and support their children, they generally prioritize their role as women, which has to do with giving preference to their couple relationship
