Abstract
In the last decades, the understanding about old age has changed from a perspective of decrepitude and isolation to the possibility of living new experiences and enjoying retirement. But this new lifestyle is economically inaccessible for many elders. As Brazilian population ages, health services must adapt to the increased demand for care adapting to the biopsychosocial needs of the aged being. This study seeks to describe and analyze the afflictions of elderly patients and the clinical practices produced in a student clinical training center in São Paulo. We consulted forty-six non-identified records of patients aged sixty or over that were treated with psychotherapy between 2015 and 2019 at this center. The themes most addressed by these patients pass through social relationships and the losses caused by aging. However, social and economic variables were not included in the efforts to understand and treat them. Furthermore, most analyses were not based on theoretical references on aging. We emphasize the urgency of incorporating this debate in the training of futures Psychology and Health professionals.
