Abstract

Introduction: Understanding psychological capital has been important for Work and Organizational Psychology in improving personal and professional outcomes in the face of current challenges faced in the world of work, with the PCQ 12 being the main measure for its assessment in contexts of positive organizational behaviors. This study sought to validate the Portuguese version of the Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PCQ-12) by Viseu et al. (2012) for Mozambican samples. Method: The design was based on instrumental research, and its participants numbered 251 professors working in public and private universities. For this purpose, three proposed factor structure models were tested: (1) single-factor model; (2); correlated four-factor model; (3) second-order model, through confirmatory factor analysis to examine their adjustment qualities. Results: The results obtained were adequate for the second-order model (χ2 = 134.346 (44); p< 0.001; χ2/gl = 3.05; CFI = 0.923 and TLI = 0.884; RMSEA = 0.086 [0.070 - 0.103], reliability coefficient 0.99). Conclusion: indicating preliminary evidence of the validity of the PCQ-12, contrary to the study by Viseu et al. (2012), which revealed poor adjustment of this model.
