Abstract

Individuals undergoing cognitive rehabilitation and cognitive retraining can enhance their neural connections and achieve functional relearning (Kimberley et al., 2010). Specifically, computer-based retraining has emerged as a bottom-up method aimed at improving cognitive skills necessary for receiving sensory information, processing it successfully, and promoting maximum independence (Li et al., 2013). Objective: To systematically review literature on digital tools for smartphones and/or mobile devices used in cognitive retraining of patients with acquired brain injury. Method: A systematic review will be conducted focusing on the question: Which cognitive stimulation applications are used in patients aged 18 or older with acquired brain injury? Results: A total of 22 theoretically supported applications for cognitive retraining were identified from 27 accepted articles.
