Abstract
Abstract: The principal aim of this paper is to undertake a critical examination of the role of the university in promoting gender equality. The persistence of gender inequalities represents a compelling rationale for undertaking this reflection in public institutions dedicated to the generation and dissemination of knowledge. It is the responsibility of universities to facilitate the long-awaited social equality, particularly in light of the alarming regression in rights. In this reflection, we caution that universities may be subjected to undue pressure from a perspective that views their role in accordance with neoliberalism and the concept of academic capitalism. In this context, the advancement of equality will not only be jeopardized but will also become a mere superficial program, lacking the capacity to transform society and promote genuine progress in equality.
